Brownies With Salted Caramel Oatmeal Crust

Ingredients

For  Single recipe    (Makes 16 brownies)

SALTED OATMEAL CRUST

Dry Ingredients:

Brown Sugar and Oats:

Butter:

Flaked Sea Salt For Oatmeal Crust:

BROWNIE TOPPING

Brownie Ingredients To Be Melted:

Ingredients To Add to Melted Chocolate and Butter:

Flaked Sea Salt For Brownie Batter:

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Grease sides of baking pan and set aside.
  3. Salted Oatmeal Crust:
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt for oatmeal crust.
  5. Whisk in brown sugar.
  6. Stir in oats.
  7. Stir in melted butter until mixture is crumbly.
  8. Press the oatmeal mixture into the baking pan.
  9. Measure out flaked sea salt for oatmeal crust and sprinkle over the top.
  10. Bake the crust for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. While the crust is baking, prepare the brownie topping.
  12. Brownie Topping:
  13. In a medium saucepan melt the unsweetened chocolate along with the butter on low heat, stirring constantly.
  14. Remove melted mixture from the heat.
  15. Using a big spoon or spatula, stir in the brown sugar and vanilla extract.
  16. Stir in the eggs.
  17. Add the dry ingredients and stir until blended.
  18. Spread the brownie mixture over the baked oatmeal crust.
  19. Measure out the flaked sea salt for the brownie topping and sprinkle over the brownie mixture.
  20. The oven should still be set at 350°.
  21. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  22. Cool, cut and serve.

These are very rich and satisfying brownies. The caramel-like flavor of the oatmeal crust paired with the flaked sea salt sprinkled over the brownie topping will leave your mouth watering for more.
